About Priority Auto Protection

Dedicated to protecting drivers from unexpected vehicle repair costs since 2010.

🚗

Built on a Simple Belief

Priority Auto Protection was founded in 2010 with a single mission: to make vehicle protection accessible, transparent, and genuinely useful for everyday drivers across America.

We saw too many families blindsided by thousand-dollar repair bills — engine failures, transmission breakdowns, electrical nightmares. The dealer warranty had expired, and there was nothing standing between them and financial hardship.

So we built something better. A vehicle service contract company grounded in integrity, with real coverage that pays real claims — quickly and without the runaround.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Priority Auto Protection and vehicle service contracts.

What is a vehicle service contract?
A vehicle service contract (VSC) is an agreement that covers the cost of certain repairs and mechanical breakdowns for your vehicle beyond what the factory warranty covers — or after the factory warranty has expired. When a covered component fails, you take your vehicle to a licensed repair shop, they call us for authorization, and we pay for the covered repair (minus your chosen deductible). Think of it as extended protection for your vehicle's mechanical components. It is sometimes referred to as an "extended warranty," though it is technically a service contract and not a manufacturer's warranty.
How is a vehicle service contract different from car insurance?
Car insurance covers you for accidents, theft, liability, and damage from events like weather or collisions. A vehicle service contract covers mechanical breakdowns and component failures — things like your engine failing, your transmission going out, your air conditioning system breaking down, or your electrical system malfunctioning. The two products are complementary: insurance protects you from accidents and external events, while a VSC protects you from internal mechanical failures. You need both for complete vehicle protection.
What vehicles are eligible for coverage?
We cover most domestic and Japanese makes from model years 2007 through 2025 with up to 125,000 miles. Eligible makes include: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, GMC, Buick, Chrysler, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, Lincoln, Cadillac, and Volvo.

Not currently eligible: Tesla, Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Mini, Scion, Saab, Suzuki, Maserati, fully electric vehicles, commercial vehicles, salvage title vehicles, or exotic vehicles. Vehicles must pass a pre-existing condition review at enrollment.
Which states do you serve?
We currently offer coverage in 37 states. Coverage is not currently available in the following 13 states: Missouri (MO), Hawaii (HI), California (CA), Nevada (NV), Washington (WA), New Mexico (NM), Florida (FL), New York (NY), Oklahoma (OK), Connecticut (CT), New Jersey (NJ), Alaska (AK), and Ohio (OH).

We are actively working to expand coverage to additional states. If you are in an excluded state, please call us at 803-839-0088 to be notified when coverage becomes available in your area.
How do I file a claim?
Filing a claim is simple:

1. Take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility. This can be a dealership, an independent mechanic, or a chain auto repair shop — as long as they are properly licensed and registered.

2. Have the repair shop call us directly at 800-610-7391 before any covered repair begins. They will provide a diagnosis and estimated repair cost.

3. We authorize the claim after verifying coverage. The shop proceeds with repairs.

4. You pay only your deductible directly to the repair shop. We handle the rest directly with the facility.

Note: Claims must be authorized before repairs begin. Unauthorized repairs may not be reimbursed.
Can I use any repair shop?
Yes — one of the biggest advantages of our vehicle service contracts is that you can use any licensed and registered repair facility nationwide. This includes:
• New and used car dealerships
• Independent local mechanics
• Franchise shops (Midas, Firestone, Pep Boys, etc.)
• Specialty shops (transmission, body, etc.)

The shop simply needs to have a valid business license and be registered to perform automotive repairs. We recommend telling your shop you have a Priority Auto Protection contract before any work begins so they can call for pre-authorization.
How soon does coverage begin after enrollment?
For most vehicles, there is a standard waiting period of 30 days and 1,000 miles from the contract start date before coverage becomes active. This waiting period is designed to ensure pre-existing conditions are not claimed immediately after enrollment.

After the waiting period, your coverage is fully active and you can begin using it immediately for any covered mechanical failure. Some vehicles may qualify for immediate coverage — speak with a specialist for details about your specific situation.
What is the administrative fee and what does it cover?
There is a one-time administrative enrollment fee of $116. This fee covers the cost of processing your application, verifying your vehicle's eligibility, setting up your account in our system, and activating your contract. It is a one-time charge collected at enrollment — there are no recurring administrative fees. Your monthly premium is separate and covers your actual coverage cost. The administrative fee is non-refundable once your contract has been activated and your coverage waiting period has begun.
What deductible options are available?
We offer three deductible options to balance your monthly premium with your out-of-pocket cost per claim:

$0 Deductible — The highest monthly premium, but you pay nothing when you use your coverage. Best for high-use drivers who want zero surprises.
$100 Deductible — Our standard option. A balanced premium with a modest out-of-pocket amount per covered repair.
$200 Deductible — The lowest monthly premium. A good choice if you want to save on monthly costs and are comfortable paying $200 if a repair is needed.

The deductible applies per visit, not per component — so if multiple covered items are repaired in a single shop visit, you only pay one deductible.
Can I cancel my contract?
Yes, you may cancel your contract at any time. If you cancel within the first 30 days and before any claims have been filed, you are entitled to a full refund of premiums paid. After 30 days, cancellation refunds are calculated on a pro-rated basis based on the time and mileage remaining on your contract, minus a small cancellation fee. The one-time administrative fee is non-refundable after contract activation. To cancel, contact our customer service team at 800-610-7391 or email us at info@priorityautoprotection.com.
Is coverage transferable if I sell my vehicle?
Yes! One of the great advantages of our vehicle service contracts is that they are fully transferable to a new owner if you sell your vehicle. This can significantly increase the resale value of your car — buyers love knowing they have coverage already in place. To transfer your contract, simply contact our customer service team within 30 days of the sale with the new owner's information. There is a small transfer fee of $50. The new owner takes over the remaining term and mileage of your contract.

Common Questions About Extended Car Warranties

Is an extended car warranty worth it?
An extended warranty is worth it if your vehicle is past the factory coverage, you can't absorb a $2,000–$4,000 surprise repair bill, and the plan covers the components most likely to fail. A transmission failure averages $2,500–$4,500 — a year of coverage averages $1,200–$2,400. On a vehicle with 80,000+ miles, the math usually favors coverage. It's less valuable if your vehicle has strong reliability history and low mileage.
What is the difference between a warranty and a vehicle service contract?
A factory warranty is a manufacturer's promise included in the vehicle purchase price. A vehicle service contract (VSC) is a separate agreement — from the dealer, manufacturer, or a third-party provider — that covers repairs after the factory warranty expires. Key difference: warranties are legally regulated; VSCs are contracts. Always read the terms carefully, as coverage and exclusions vary significantly.
How much does an extended car warranty cost per month?
Extended warranty costs typically range from $80 to $200+ per month depending on your vehicle's age, mileage, make, and coverage tier. Basic powertrain-only plans cost less; comprehensive plans covering electrical, suspension, and A/C cost more. Priority Auto Protection plans start from $99/mo on a month-to-month basis — no long-term commitment required.
Can I get an extended warranty on a used car?
Yes. Most third-party extended warranties are specifically designed for used vehicles whose factory warranty has expired. Eligibility depends on the vehicle's model year, mileage, make, and current condition. We cover most domestic and Japanese makes from 2007–2025 with up to 125,000 miles. Use the free quote tool above or our VIN check tool to see if your vehicle qualifies.
What happens if my warranty claim is denied?
Request the denial reason in writing immediately. Most denials are disputable — the most common reasons are pre-existing condition claims and maintenance gap citations, both of which require the provider to prove causation. File a formal appeal, gather maintenance records and mechanic documentation, and if needed escalate to the BBB or your state attorney general. Most disputes resolve before litigation. Read our warranty claim appeal guide for the full process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's covered under each plan?
Coverage varies by plan tier. RoadStar Powertrain covers engine, transmission, drive axle, and transfer case. RoadStar Select adds electrical, A/C, heating, cooling, and brakes. RoadStar Premier adds suspension, steering, fuel system, and hi-tech electronics. RoadStar Elite adds everything in Premier plus maximum comprehensive coverage. Use our free quote tool above to see exactly what's covered for your vehicle.
Can I use any mechanic?
Yes. You can take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility nationwide — dealerships, independent mechanics, or franchise shops. Unlike some competitors who restrict you to their network, Priority Auto Protection gives you complete freedom to choose where you get repaired.
Is there a contract or cancellation fee?
No long-term contracts. Our plans are month-to-month subscriptions with no term commitments — cancel anytime with no penalties. If you cancel within 30 days before any claims are filed, you receive a full refund of premiums paid. After 30 days, pro-rated refunds apply minus a small cancellation fee. The one-time $116 enrollment fee is non-refundable once your coverage waiting period has begun.
How do I file a claim?
Call us directly at 800-610-7391, 24/7. Take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility, have them call for pre-authorization, we verify coverage, and they proceed with repairs. You pay only your chosen deductible — we handle the rest. No third-party brokers, no middlemen. Most claims are approved same-day.
What vehicles are eligible?
Eligibility depends on your vehicle's year, make, model, and mileage. Most domestic and Japanese makes from model years 2007–2025 with up to 125,000 miles are eligible. Use our free quote tool above to instantly check eligibility for your specific vehicle — no credit card required.
What's the deductible?
Three deductible options are available: $0 Deductible (highest monthly premium, nothing out-of-pocket when you claim), $100 Deductible (our standard balanced option), and $200 Deductible (lowest monthly premium). The deductible applies per visit, not per component — so multiple covered repairs in one shop visit only require one deductible payment.
When does coverage start?
Coverage has a standard 30-day and 1,000-mile waiting period after enrollment before benefits become active. This is standard across the industry and helps ensure pre-existing conditions are not claimed immediately. After the waiting period, your coverage is fully active and you can use it for any covered mechanical failure. Some vehicles may qualify for immediate coverage — speak with a specialist for details.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
No. Mechanical failures or breakdowns that existed before your contract start date are not covered. At enrollment, vehicles are reviewed against maintenance records and inspection data to identify any pre-existing conditions. Coverage applies only to new mechanical failures that occur after the contract start date and waiting period have passed.
